Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje stayed in Atjeh in 1892-1893 to advise on the political situation. His advice in short: never negotiate with the enemy, only strike them, never give them the chance to recover. After that, there would be every opportunity for measures to show the Gouvernement’s peaceful intentions. Logical and simple advice, but a sensitive shock was needed to demonstrate it - and that shock was delivered by Teukoe Oemar.
