The Landing at Pedro Point took place on 9 December 1873 when the invasion force of the Second Aceh Expedition under General Jan van Swieten disembarked at Pedro Point (near Tjankoel Loee), 11 kilometers east of the Aceh River mouth.
Detailed Narrative
At 6:00 AM on 9 December 1873, 186 naval landing boats carrying the 2nd Brigade moved toward Pedro Point under cover of heavy naval bombardment. Lieutenant P. Vinkhuijzen led the first section of the 14th Infantry Battalion ashore at 9:00 AM, scattering Acehnese coastal patrols.
By evening, the entire 2nd Brigade had landed safely, marching west along the beach to establish a bivouac at Lamnga. The 3rd Brigade landed shortly thereafter. The maneuver bypassed expected Acehnese beach stockades west of the river, securing a beachhead for subsequent advances toward Kota Pohama and Gigieng.
