Kielstra’s work provided a detailed contemporary account of the military operations in Atjeh from the beginning of the war in 1873 through the early 1880s. It served as a standard reference alongside the more analytical works of C. Snouck Hurgronje and the comprehensive military history of the Netherlands Indies by G. B. Hooyer.
