Expedition to Edi (1890) was a Dutch marine operation aimed at securing the eastern coastal town of Edi in Atjeh. Conducted in 1890, the force was part of the ongoing Dutch effort to pacify the sultanate after the earlier campaigns of the 1870s.
The marines built a small fortification at Edi and used the base to launch patrols against rebel groups operating along the Krueng Seumantok river system.
Outcome
The expedition succeeded in establishing a Dutch foothold on the east coast, but resistance continued in the interior for several more years.
