Expedition to Boni and Loewoe (1905) was a Dutch marine operation conducted in 1905 against the coastal regions of Boni (Sulawesi) and Loewoe (Sulawesi). The expedition formed part of the Dutch effort to extend control over the eastern Indonesian archipelago following the long‑running Aceh conflict.
A detachment of the Dutch Marine Corps landed at the port of Boni and proceeded to subdue resistant villages, after which the force moved eastward to Loewoe, where it negotiated the surrender of local leaders.
Significance
The campaign helped to secure the southern Celebes coast for Dutch trade and to prevent the use of the area as a base for anti‑colonial activity that could support Acehnese rebels.
