The Battle of Ketapan Doewa occurred on 15 February 1874 when Dutch forces under Lieutenant-Colonel Jacobus Pel destroyed the anti-colonial stronghold of the Imam of Djampit at Ketapan Doewa.
Detailed Narrative
At 6:30 AM on 15 February 1874, Lieutenant-Colonel Pel assembled six half-battalions, five artillery sections, and sappers at Kota Goenoengan. Leaving a guard detachment at Lamtemen, the main force advanced across a flooded rice plain toward Ketapan Doewa.
Under intense crossfire, Pel deployed eight battalion columns in a three-pronged advance. At noon, the 3rd and 12th Battalions launched a simultaneous bayonet charge against the southern, eastern, and western village stockades.
After sharp hand-to-hand fighting, Acehnese defenders retreated across the Kroeng Daroe, leaving over 70 dead inside the works. The column withdrew to Peunayong at 5:00 PM, having sustained 6 killed and 56 wounded.
