Atjeh campaign (26 December 1875 – 7 February 1876) denotes the initial phase of the Dutch offensive in Atjeh (Aceh) that concluded with a temporary withdrawal on 7 February 1876. This shorter timeframe is the subject of a second Cambier monograph titled De mariniers te Atjeh van 26 December 1875 tot 7 February 1876 (see page 473).
Operational Outline
- Landing (26 December 1875) – Same as the longer campaign, marines landed near Banda Aceh.
- Advance (January 1876) – Troops moved toward interior strongholds, establishing bivouacs in Groot Atjeh.
- Withdrawal (7 February 1876) – After encountering stiff resistance and logistical difficulties, the force withdrew to the coast.
