Monthly Reports of the Government of Atjeh and Dependencies was the monthly reports of the Government of Atjeh en Onderhoorigheden, the principal running source of Generaal Swart for the years 1908–1918.
Their formulas mark the course of the pacification: “the political situation remained favourable” (“the political situation remained favourable”) became the customary opening in 1911; thereafter “political situation favourable and very favourable” (“political situation favourable and very favourable”) and “geen bijzonders.” (“nothing particular”) “The short reports became ever shorter in the political part and ever fuller in the economic part.” They record in detail the fate of individual bands, the numbers of dead, prisoners, submissions and surrendered firearms, and the Atjeh murders, which “run like a thin red thread through the monthly reports over virtually all the years after 1912.”
