De Pepercultuur in de Buitenbezittingen (“Pepper cultivation in the Outer Possessions”) was instalment V of the Mededeelingen van het Encyclopaedisch Bureau, cited by D. W. N. de Boer as the reference work for the pepper economy of Atjeh in his account of the contract of the Atjehnese pepper planter.

Introducing the pepper contract, De Boer directed the reader: “Vergelijk: De Pepercultuur in de Buitenbezittingen, afl. V van de Mededeelingen van het Encyclopaedisch Bureau; vgl. ook De Buitenbezittingen: Atjeh en Onderhoorigheden, Deel II, afl. 2, blz. 148 vlg.” The two works together supplied the general economic background against which he described the particular legal forms of the Atjehnese pepper contract — the aneu’ seuneubô, the peutoeha pangkaj, the wathé pangkaj and the boh è.
