Uleebelang (Oëleuëbalang) was traditionally the title of hereditary feudal district rulers and noble military chiefs in the Sultanate of Aceh who governed hereditary territories (negeri or sagoë).
Marechaussee Jargon Usage
Within the internal jargon and camp culture of the Korps Maréchaussée, the term Oëleuëbalang was adopted by soldiers to designate detachment and company captains (kapitein-divisiecommandant). This linguistic adoption reflected how Marechaussee units borrowed Acehnese structural terminology to build an internal military hierarchy suited to local conditions.
