Description
Oil palm cultivation began in 1911 with Belgian/French capital. The variety used (from West Africa) produces more in Ned. Indië than in its homeland. Yields palmolie (from fruit flesh) and palmpitten (palm kernels), both of commercial value. 11,325 H.A. planted by end 1937; 8,838,500 K.G. palm oil and 1,636,500 K.G. palm kernels exported in 1937.
Significance
The term oliepalm is recorded by Jongejan as part of the cultural, administrative, or institutional vocabulary of Aceh.
