koophuwelijk (English: “purchase marriage (Gajo)”) is a term or concept described in Jongejan’s Land en Volk van Atjeh Vroeger en Nu in relation to Aceh. Gajo marriage by purchase; had several variants including schaaphuwelijk (abduction marriage), vluchthuwelijk (elopement marriage — girl seeks out the man in his dwelling), and loonhuwelijk (labor marriage — man buys his wife wholly or partly through labor instead of money).
