Jinn are supernatural beings in Islamic theology, mentioned in the Malay translation of the Burda as “the djinn’s cries” that accompany the birth of the prophetic messenger. The poem portrays them as part of the cosmic audience that witnesses the Prophet’s miracles.
Role in the Burda
In verses 66–68 of the Malay text, the jinn are described as shouting to one another when the “gods’ messenger” is born, highlighting the universal recognition of the Prophet’s sanctity.
Belief in Aceh
Acehnese ulama incorporated belief in jinn into legal rulings and exorcism practices. The Burda’s reference reinforced the notion that even unseen beings acknowledge the Prophet’s authority.
