The gantang was the Atjehnese measure of capacity equal to one-eighth of a naleh and to two areh; eighty gantang made one goentja. It formed part of the scale by which the size of a rice field in Atjeh was expressed, the area being reckoned by the quantity of bibit required to plant it.
