Flores was a Dutch steamship (Hr.Ms. “Hollandse Rijksmagazijn‑schip”) employed by the Royal Netherlands Navy during the Tamiang expedition of February 1893. The vessel, together with Soembawa (ship) and Sindoro (ship), formed part of the flotilla commanded by W. Allirol that cleared river obstructions.
Operational Use
The ship carried a eel‑flotilla of armed boats that engaged enemy fire while dismantling blockades of rotan, rope and bamboo on the Tamiang river.
Significance
Flores demonstrates the logistical flexibility of the Dutch navy in riverine operations during the Aceh War.
