In the pre-Hindu era, people lived in scattered hamlets and villages of members of a single ‘family’; everything important happened in the ‘family circle’ and each circle was its own little realm. This is the foundation that Sultan Iskandar Moeda later reputedly organized into the ‘nanggroe’ system.
Significance
The term familie-gedachte is recorded by Jongejan as part of the cultural, administrative, or institutional vocabulary of Aceh.
