Dam ai (also rendered damai) is the Acehnese word for “peace”. It appears on 81 with the gloss “vrede (A. salm)”. In the Burda translation the term is used in verses that call for reconciliation and the cessation of conflict, e.g., “dengan men‑damai antaranja, onder aanbod van vrede”.
The concept is central to Acehnese customary law (adat) where dam ai resolves disputes.
